Young drivers who customise their vehicles are the focus of a new campaign to ensure they stay on the right side of the law.
Safer Ryedale Safety Partnership says that the tinkering with cars, most common amongst young drivers, has been fuelled by the success of TV shows such as MTV’s Pimp My Ride. However the partnership says that putting name stickers and other banners over the windscreen restricts visibility while messing around under the bonnet is also dangerous.
The partnership is planning several Young Driver initiatives across the region with police officers attending to give their advice. A spokesman for the partnership says: “The aim is to raise awareness of responsible driving and the dangers posed to the younger and more inexperienced drivers, along with providing information to passengers travelling in vehicles driven by young or inexperienced drivers.”
