A new survey has found that a quarter of workers in the UK regularly work all day without taking a break which could be breaching employment law in most cases..
The research, from the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP), found that 36% often work through their lunch break with the main reasons being that they have too much work to do and that there were too few staff to cover the workload. It also found that 54% of workers ‘always or usually’ go to work when they are feeling stressed and 41% say they do not exercise regularly because they are too busy with work.
The CSP says that the findings show that the nation’s work habits pose serious risks to health which can also adversely affect employers.
Phil Gray, Chief Executive of the CSP said: “Physiotherapists are concerned that overworking and not taking breaks is actually costing employers and their staff. Employees pay the price with their health and there is a cost to employers in reduced productivity and performance.”
