Another day, another failed TV wedding

Following from our divorce and annulment blog regarding Coronations Street’s Carla and Peter, Emmerdale is now at it!

At first the wedding of Dan and Kerry seemed as though it was doomed from the start, what with the groom nearly failing to attend, but of course everything worked out and the happy couple married in the village church with very lyrical vows.

Their happiness was soon to evaporate however at the reception when Kerry’s husband turned up. Yes that’s right, she was already married.

Luckily we have already discussed the scenarios which determine whether you can apply for an annulment or where you have to wait for a divorce. As Kerry was already married, the second marriage to Dan is void and the marriage can be annulled.

The unlucky bride was later served with divorce papers from her first husband whom she married on a drunken whim in Las Vegas. I wonder if either of them are aware that they could actually apply for an annulment on the grounds that their marriage was voidable because they could not properly consent to their marriage i.e. they were both drunk and weren’t sure that what happens in Vegas doesn’t always stay in Vegas.
