The wife of an oil millionaire has told a court that she wants double the £5m she was given as part of her divorce settlement because that figure was “far too low”.
Victoria Jones was married to Gareth Jones who made millions from the Scottish offshore oil and gas industry. When their marriage collapsed in 2006 after 10 years together, she was given £5m and allowed to continue living in the couple’s £2.1m home in Buckinghamshire. However, Mrs Jones has now asked the Court of Appeal in London to double her settlement because her ex-husband’s company had been under-valued.
She claimed that the original settlement only granted her 20% of family assets which were worth £25m. Legal fees in the case have already totalled £1.5m and judgement in the case has been reserved until a later date.
