Wakefield printing firm Bezier has said that it will carefully consider the findings of an inquest jury which said that safety failings were to blame for the death of one of the company’s employees.
William Aveyard died after an accident in May 2008 in which he was dragged into a machine whilst attempting to clear a blockage in a hand-fed press. The jury at Wakefield Coroner’s Court, found that risk assessments had not been passed down to workers and there was no written system of work regarding misfeeds.
A spokeswoman for Bezier, said that the thoughts of everyone at the company were with Mr Aveyard’s family and added that the firm is closely considering the inquest’s findings.
She added: “Bill had worked in the printing industry all of his life, had run his own printing business before joining Bezier and was deemed competent by his supervisor to use safely all the handfed Platen machines in the Department. Bezier takes its health and safety obligations very seriously indeed and has co-operated fully with the HSE throughout its investigation.”
