A former teacher who was sacked for gross misconduct has lost her appeal against unfair dismissal.
Alison Morris was sacked from her job at a school in Bolton on the grounds of misconduct following allegations that she had asked a junior member of staff to falsify school records and that she had mismanaged school finances in order to gain financially. She was deputy head of the school and had been acting headteacher for a time.
Following her dismissal she took the school and Bolton Council to an industrial tribunal claiming unfair dismissal. She claimed that she was ignorant of the process to obtain authorisation and said she was merely correcting errors. She added that she had always obtained approval for increases in her salary. However the tribunal upheld the disciplinary panel’s decision and said that her claim was without foundation.
