More people than ever get the ‘Sunday blues’ according to a new survey.
The mental health charity Mind, which commissioned the research, found that one in four workers suffer on Sundays because of the stress of going back into work the day after. 2,000 workers were questioned during the research and 70% of them admitted to dread and apprehension before going back into work after the weekend.
A third of those questioned said they felt this way most weeks and with 70 million working days a year lost to mental health problems, Mind is calling on firms to help by taking steps to improve working conditions and making sure that workers are given proper lunch breaks.
Paul Farmer, from the charity, said: “The emotional fall-out of the recession doesn’t just centre on people who have lost jobs, but also on those struggling to cope with the extra demands of working harder.”
