Motor racing driver Lewis Hamilton has demonstrated a car anti-skid protection system which, although it has been in use for some time, is hardly used by drivers despite the fact it could prevent road accidents.
Hamilton demonstrated the electronic stability control (ESC) in Bedfordshire as research showed that only one in five drivers know about it and over a quarter of drivers aged between 18 and 34 think it is of no use. A Populous survey showed only a third of drivers wanted it installed into their next car despite it being capable of saving up to 250 lives a year. The survey said that car showroom staff had not sufficiently promoted the ESC system.
