The former manager of a Scottish Highland League side has won a claim for unfair dismissal after he was sacked following two defeats.
Dave McGinlay claimed he was sacked from his job in charge of Huntly football club although an employment tribunal in Aberdeen heard how ex-chairman Robbie Mackay and other directors said that he had left of his own accord. He maintains that he was fired because the board said they had lost confidence in his team selection.
Club representatives told the tribunal that Mr McGinlay quit because he was “disgusted” in the way the club was being run and insisted that he had not been sacked or asked to resign.
However the tribunal ruled in favour of Mr McGinlay, saying that he had little reason to leave the club, especially as it still had every chance of winning the Highland League title. He was awarded £8,425 in compensation to cover his loss of earnings.
