A new poll has found that adults in Britain are increasingly ignoring the advice to “stop, look and listen” when crossing the road and are instead just stepping out.
The survey, from Sheilas’ Wheels, questioned 1,000 adults and found that almost half do not stop before crossing the road while a quarter do not even look both ways. The figures also revealed that nearly all admitted to crossing between vehicles that had stopped while 86% confessed to crossing the road halfway when only one side was clear.
The survey, which named Londoners as the most dangerous pedestrians, found that a large percentage of people were distracted while crossing the road due to talking on their mobile phone, texting, listening to music and some even reading a book or newspaper.
