A woman’s worst nightmare happened when a sexual assault resulted in her falling pregnant. She had already split up with her partner, following a difficult and toxic relationship. He would not leave her alone with constant phone calls and messages.
One evening, late on, he showed up at her door and forced his way inside; he had been out drinking. He was full of apologies and wanted to get back to together.
Following a heated discussion he forced himself on her and raped her violently before leaving when she called the police.
The trauma of the rape was confounded when she found out that she was pregnant. He was charged with the crime and Victim Support helped her, but there was no moving on from the assault when she was carrying the baby.
A claim was made to the CICA after she approached Winston Solicitors and she received an award of compensation. The award, reflecting both the rape and the pregnancy was £16,500.
