Anthony Conway, who has over 50 years experience as a solicitor in Leeds has retired, with a party held in his honour last week.
Anthony, who has been a consultant at Winston Solicitors since 2005, left the firm at the end of October 2010, bringing to an end half a century of legal work in the city.
He started working life with his father’s firm, A. Conway, and qualified as a solicitor in 1960. He stayed with the firm when it merged two years later to become Conway Kremer. After merging with Winston Solicitors in 2005, Anthony continued to specialise in the licensing law and he was also a member of Solicitors for the Elderly.
Anthony was a leading member of the Leeds Law Society, becoming its President in 1992. He has also been a member of Leeds University’s Council, becoming Chair of the Court Audit Committee, a member of the Equal Opportunities Committee for Council and Senate and Chair of Convocation. He is also joint chairman of the Council of Christians and Jews, having been involved with the body for many years.
Jonathan Winston, managing partner at Winston Solicitors, paid tribute at the retirement party. He said: “It has been a great pleasure working with Anthony. Anthony joined us in 2005, when we were a new practice, finding our feet. It was wonderful to have had the benefit of Anthony’s experience, his well-earned reputation, his professionalism, and his kindness. His contribution to the practice is much appreciated, and will never be forgotten.”
